Scartaris is one of the peaks on Mt. Sneffels mentioned in Jules Verne’s novel: “Journey to the Center of the Earth” written in 1864. In the novel, at a precise time of year at sunrise, a beam of light hitting Scartaris will also mark the exact spot on the opposite side of the crater wall, indicating the entrance to the center of the earth.
